Common name:Variegated Japanese Silver Grass
Botanical name:Miscanthus sinensis 'Variegatus'

This tall, mounding grass will grow to about 6' high and has seasonally deciduous, greenish white, variegated leaves. Tall grasses are highly combustible.

Checkerbloom

Common name:Checkerbloom
Botanical name:Sidalcea malviflora

This native perennial will grow about 2' tall and 2' wide. It has lobed, dark green leaves with pinkish purple flowers that bloom in early spring. It prefers limited water in summer; it will come back with winter rains.

Sunset Manzanita

Common name:Sunset Manzanita
Botanical name:Arctostaphylos 'Sunset'

This manzanita is a mounding shrub 4'-5' high and 4'-6' wide. It has coppery red new growth, then later turning bright green. It has pinkish-white flowers in winter to early spring.

Compact Myrtle

Common name:Compact Myrtle
Botanical name:Myrtus communis 'Compacta'

This evergreen shrub is 6' high and 5' wide with aromatic leaves. It blooms with white, sweet-scented flowers followed by bluish black berries. It can be grown in sun or partial shade; well drained soil is essential. 'Compacta' has smaller leaves and is often used for edges and low formal hedges.
